Since the first home built in Flamingo Beach, the area has been the destination of the Rich and Famous. Around it, other exclusive destinations had popped-up lately, adding glamour to general area, specially, but not only, the Papagayo Gulf Project. As a result the affluence of airplane owners as reached unexpected dimensions. The Tarmac at Liberia International ( MRLB ) looks more like an air show or Private plane auction, as seen in this excellent picture taken by Andre Quiros, Notice a firefighter's truck in action in the foreground.

This small airport started in 2002 with a modest 56.000 traffic of passengers that year, and 16 flights a week, growing over a 100% per year to a total 350.000 and 47 flights in 2007. An astonishing 535% growth, the faster in the Continent. That growth is paralled only by the construction rate, the biggest in the country, Central America and the Caribbean. A new 107,639 Sq F. building, with a 1500 passengers capacity is expected to be ready by 2009.

With more and more personalities visiting the area such as Madonna, Bruce Willis, Meg Ryan, Michael Jordan, Sylvester Stallone, Tiger Woodss, Cindy Crawford, Angelina Jolie, Bradd Pitt, William Baldwin, and Bill Gates, Big League investors as the Jack Palmer Corporation, Time Warner - Aol's Steve Case, Marriott, One and Only, Hilton Papagayo, Ritz Carlton Regent and Westin as well as Celebrities such as Andrea Agasi and wife, Stefanni Gaff, Mel Gibson and Charlie Sheen is clear that more and more airplane owner will be flying in.
